“Language file”

  • Tamas Horvath
Hi, First of all. Congrats for this wonderful theme I like it very much! I'm having issue with the language file. I translated the theme with the given .pot file and I have the .mo file. I don't know what to name it. I've tried different namings but none was identified by the theme. Should it be _klein-xx_XX, or just xx_XX? That's what I need assistance with. Thanks. (I'm Hungarian, so I named it hu_HU ie)

Just save it as 'xx_XX.mo', then in your wp-config.php, you need to tell wordpress to load your default language instead. To do this, edit 'wp-config.php' file in your WordPress install, find the line that says 'define('WPLANG', '');' and change it to 'define('WPLANG', 'xx_XX');'. That should do the trick :)

If you want to get the updated texts just generate a new mo file.

    Thanks!

    Joseph,

Unfortunately it didn't work. I saved it to hu_HU.mo copied it to /wp-content/themes/klein/languages/

the wplang is already set to hu_HU. Do you have any other ideas? :s

    thanks,

    Tom

I can see that most of your strings are well translated now. Is the problem still exists? Also, make sure you re-generate a new mo file. Thank you.

Sorry Joseph, perhaps I don't understand it. The strings are translated, but the page is still in English. (Read More, My Profile, etc.)

What do you exactly mean that generate a new mo file? Should I get back into POEdit and save the translation one more time?

I've tried several times, but the theme still doesn't recognize the translation :(

Hi Tamas. Did you go to poedit > new catalog ? and regenerated the strings? Thanks

    2:43 on September 6, 2013

  • Tamas Horvath

What do you mean by regenerating the strings? Could you please tell me step by step what should I do? I have been doing this all day and I can't get it to work.

I have worked with many themes before but have never had problem make it translated.

I have a _klein.pot file in the theme's directory, I open it with POEdit and start translating the strings. What should I do next?

  • Tamas Horvath

    okay, so

    1. I opened the _klein.pot with Poedit

    2. I press File>New Catalogue and save it as hu_HU

    3. I upload it to the ftp but it still won't work. The theme stays English

I'm sorry, but you must be doing something wrong. You need to regenerate a new 'mo' file for the theme to get the updated strings. The pot file available inside the theme is only the default translation for underscore theme (the framework of Klein).

Please take some time reading this blog tutorial (under "Using poEdit to Translate").

Also, please double check your wp-config file. Check to see if you've added the proper configuration in WPLANG constant.

Please let me know how it goes. Thanks :)

The wp-config is correct. I have other plugins installed and I managed to translate them with poedit

I'm familiar with that error. It happens to me almost everytime.
Solution: In the path tab.. add new a path and put '../' instead of '.'

    Thanks :)
